Course Map

** Please note that the map above reflects a ROUTE CHANGE due to some unexpected infrastructure construction at the north end of the route. Thank you for understanding that the safety of our girls necessitated this minor course adjustment.

GOTR participants will be joining their teams in the "Locker Room" on Calder Plaza at 7:45am. Please plan on leaving plenty of time for parking, as Calder Plaza will not be accessible by vehicle for drop offs.
Adult runners who have checked in and have their bib on will be allowed to join the girls in the Locker Room. Adults who are not running (are not wearing a run bib) will be asked to leave the Locker Room no later than 8:20am, when the girls' program begins.

The entire course of the run is visible from city sidewalks. However, do pay attention to where you park for the event so that you do not get blocked in during the run. There is some construction happening in the downtown area that will impact access, and another running event will be happening at Rosa Parks Cirle. That event may also impact traffic during the morning of the 20th.

Ottawa (from Coldbrook to Newberry)

Newberry (from Ionia to Ottawa)

Please stay on the sidewalks along the route, not in the roads, to view the event. Spectators may stay near Calder Plaza to view the start/finish line, or may choose a point along the route somewhere to help cheer on all the girls when their energy starts to flag.

Our best recommendations for an enjoyable event experience:

- No matter where you chose to view, have a plan before race day and be familiar with the downtown area.

- Ottawa Ave will be closed for the entire event 6am to 1pm

- All other roads were the girls will be running are closed from 9:30am until the last girl passes, when they can be safely re‐opened.

- The northern part of the course will open earliest with the southern parts later in the event

- Streets such as Ionia/Lyon/ Division along with Ottawa will remain closed the longest

Viewing from Calder:

- Park in any lot that doesn’t exit to a closed road if timing is a concern.

- Government Center Lot directly below Calder Plaza in the closest parking ramp but will take the longest to exit after the event.

- Sidewalks along Ottawa will have barricades to keep spectators from entering the critical start/finish areas.

- Sidewalks along Ionia/and Lyon will not have barricades.

Viewing from the northern most part of the course:

- Park at Griff's Icehouse, 30 Coldbrook St NE, Grand Rapids 49503. Parking is FREE here.

- All sidewalks are open for viewing (except near the aid station on Ottawa).

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO THE GIRLS WEAR?

Please be sure that your GOTR girl is wearing her 5K Girls on the Run tee-shirt, running shoes, and comfortable running clothes. Check with your team's coaches for any specific plans for your Girl on the Run and her team.

Are there aid stations available?

Water will be available at the start. One Aid station will be available on the course. Each participant should plan to take no more than two servings of water at the Aid Station. Runners are also encouraged to bring water bottles along on the course. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line.

Where should I park?

Please see parking map in the 5k details.

WHERE DO THE GIRLS MEET THEIR TEAM?

The staging area on Calder Plaza will be a secure drop off area. Think of the entire plaza as the girl's "Locker Room." An area where they can get warmed up, talk to their coaches, and generally get ready for the run. You will find your team/school flag, sign in your girl with the coaches and then head out. This will give you time to find a good viewing location. This is also the place where you will meet your daughter after the 5K. The Locker Room is not accessible by vehicle. Please park first.

WHAT TIME WILL THE EVENT FINISH?

We encourage spectators and participants to stay and cheer until all girls finish. This teaches our girls to support their teammates and practice good sportsmanship. We encourage you to celebrate with your daughter, teammates, and all the girls from across the county.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE 5K IS OVER? HOW DO I FIND MY GOTR GIRL?

Once your girl has crossed the finish line, she will be returning to her team's flag in the Locker Room (Heritage Landing). Plan to meet your GOTR girl there to sign her out with the coaches. All GOTR girls will then receive a wrist band for a visual verification that they have checked out. Girls may NOT leave directly from the course, and must have a parent/guardian check them out at their team sign. No exceptions!

Volunteer Registration

This event would not be possible without the help of amazing volunteers who believe in our mission and show up to support our girls. Over 250 volunteers are needed to put on our best 5K yet! Whatever your special skills and talents, we have a role for everyone.
